One
of the most beautiful legend of western Sicily, tells about the building of the
castle of Salemi, a wonderful city near Trapani. This story reflects the three
main monotheistic religions. A powerful and rich king had three brothers, two men
and a woman. The name of the woman was Halicyae. Halicyae had an uncommon
beauty and a big intellect. The three brothers had to decide who should be
succeed to the father. So they faced themselves in the building of a castle.
Each one choosed a place. The first who finish had to inform the others
lighting a big fire. The astute Halicyae, little before finishing the
construction, lighted up the fire and, while the two brothers arrive, she
finished to build the castle. For this reason the first name of Salemi was Alicia.
